My Experiences in Tae Kwon Do

I started Tae Kwon Do with my best friend, Allison Tibbott. We started together in October of 2010. We have been working towards our black belts since. We have stuck together since we were white belts and now we will be getting our black belts together. I’m sure we will reach higher belts together in the future.

I have learned a lot in Tae Kwon Do.  I have learned about being courteous to others, not just in Tae Kwon Do, but also in school and everywhere. Also I learned about integrity and being honest with my friends and myself. I have definitely learned perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit through Tae Kwon Do. I think all these tenants have helped me work harder in Tae Kwon Do, school and in other sports.

I enjoy doing Tae Kwon Do. The Do Jang is like a second home to me. The people that go to Tae Kwon Do are my second family. I like learning and teaching with everyone. I have met so many new people through Tae Kwon Do. One of the things I like to do at class is help teach.

Some of my favorite things to do are flying sidekicks, Chung-Mu, step sidekicks, and so much more. I enjoy doing flying sidekicks over people because it’s fun and challenging. I also enjoy the form Chung-Mu because I like doing all the knife hands during the form. The reason I like doing step sidekicks is because that is the first kick you break a board with as a white belt.

Almost all of my family is involved in Tae Kwon Do. My older sister, Kayla, is a blue belt. My 7-year-old sister is a 1st temporary brown belt. Ella is 10 and she is a temporary black belt along with me. My 15-year-old brother is a 1st degree black belt. My mom, Jess, is a 3rd degree black belt. I really like to do Tae Kwon Do with my family. I am glad that I have people that will be able to help me anytime I’m stuck on something or just want to practice to make sure I have everything down. It is nice that they can help me if I need it.

I have gone to Grand Master Jung’s cabin once. That’s where I met Mrs. Pearson and got to know Grand Master Jung better.  Now Mrs. Pearson is a great support system for me at testing or anything. It was a really fun experience and it helped me get to know many awesome people that I probably wouldn’t have met before. It was fun scrapping and painting the cabin. I would go back to the cabin any day.

I think Tae Kwon Do helped me with lots of things like meeting new people, to be courteous and a whole lot more. I will always try to do my best in Tae Kwon Do. I love to test and get a higher belt each time. I love doing TKD with everybody and I want to stick with it as long as I can. This is my Tae Kwon Do story.
