Temporary Black Belt
October 24, 2015
My name is Alex Haus and I am a brown belt. Tae Kwon Do is a great sport. Tae means foot, Kwon means hand, and Do means art. The reason why I started Tae Kwon Do is because it looked like fun and my parents were pushing me to have an activity of my own like my sisters have. On the first day of Tae Kwon Do class, I was scared and very shy but after a while I knew what was going on.
When you are a blue belt on up, they work you hard. They do this to get you ready for temporary black belt testing. It's a lot of work. The most powerful kick is a sidekick. When you break a board you get to use a lot of techniques like a palm heel or a step side kick and you need lots of concentration. My favorite technique is the reverse kick and palm hand strike.
My favorite part of Tae Kwon Do is that you get to meet new people especially black belts. We walk in parades. We also do demonstrations during the summer months. We compete in a break-a-thon every year. A break-a-thon is an event where other dojos come and meet and compete against each other. Everyone receives medals and awards for their participation . I like to do work out class and forms and board breaking. I like to do free sparring. Our classes meet 3-4 times a week. We run in snow to toughen up our feet. When you are a brown belt on up, you get to do a tornado kick. I also get to teach lower color belt how to do one steps and forms.
The five TKD tenets of Tae Kwon Do are Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control, and Indomitable spirit. I like Indomitable Spirit because it gives me the courage to never give up. We have to use self-control in Tae Kwon Do, where I know when and where to stop so I don’t injure my sparring partner. There are a lot of forms, foot, and hand techniques that I need to memorize and remember.
We go to Cedar Rapids to test for a new belt. If I keep going up the belt levels I will get a black belt someday. If I keep trying I know I will get a black belt. If I get my black belt, I am going to keep doing Tae Kwon Do. All the black belts support me. I never give up, that will make me a good black belt. Tae Kwon Do is a family to me because the members are positive and they give you positive encouragement.
In Tae Kwon Do you have to work hard to get your temporary black belt. My temporary black belt testing is going to be the hardest test I will ever have. It is my dream to become a black belt. I will never give up on my dreams. I love Tae Kwon Do.
