What Tae Kwon Do Has Done For Me and My Life

Tae Kwon Do has done a lot of good things for me and for my life. Tae Kwon Do has given me a chance to lose weight, Tae Kwon Do has helped me be a lot more flexible, whether it is doing my kicks or just stretching. Tae Kwon Do has helped me be a lot more respectful to my friends, my parents, my instructor, my teachers, and my fellow classmates. It has taught me to be a lot more responsible with my school work and watching my brother and sister when my parents are not home.

I have learned that it takes discipline and to never give up. There has been many times where I wanted to give up but I did not. I kept pushing to my limits to accomplish my goals and dreams.

I have learned to channel my energy into even the smallest areas. For an example when I am breaking a board, I focus on one specific spot on the board and channel all of my energy to hit that specific spot. I usually end up with a broken board if I hit it in that spot.
I have also learned that you have to work very hard for something you want, just like I want my black belt. Some people work very hard for the black belt. Other people just want the black belt just handed to them or any other kind of belt. It takes hard work and preparation to earn a belt.

I have learned to be very patient. Whether it be learning a new form, learning a new meaning or waiting for the next test. I have learned to encourage other people and my fellow classmates and not bring them down if they do not get something on their first try. I need to try to help them with whatever they are doing so they can get it faster. I know that I need to put others before me.

I have learned that you have to be dedicated to Tae Kwon Do. You have to work on many things outside of the class and learn all of your eleven meanings, all of your eighteen forms, and all of your one-steps. You have to be responsible with all of your things and do not depend on your parents to keep care and to keep track of your dobok, the rest of your gear, and all of your other things. You have to be prepared for class or for any other thing you are attending.

I have also learned the five tenets of Tae Kwon Do, which have played an important role in my life. The first one is courtesy, has taught me to be thoughtful and considerate to others. The second one is integrity, has taught me to be honest to yourself and others. The third one is perseverance, has taught me to try hard and to never give up. The fourth one is self-control, has taught me to keep control. The fifth one is indomitable spirit, has taught me to have courage in the face of adversity. Those were only a few of the things I have learned for Tae Kwon Do.
