Brad Barnhart--1st Dan

December 14, 2013

My family and I our proud to be part of this wonderful martial art, my two sons are 7 years old now and they lost interest in being part of Tae Kwon Do for now. I will encourage them to join back up and hopefully in the near future they will so they can have the experience of being part of Tae Kwon Do. My two daughters and I have made Tae Kwon Do a part of our life, trying to make it to every class that we can. I am a temp black belt and my girls are now brown belts so this year we are going to take the Colorado trip to Grand Master Jung’s cabin. Our instructor Master Robert McDowell has been to a lot of places for Tae Kwon Do, he went to North and South Korea, Alaska, Kentucky, Colorado, and he is planning a trip to Washington, for a Tae Kwon Do tournament  just to name a few.  I talked to a lot of the students in class and they are planning on going to Washington with Master McDowell and so is my girls and I. The other students and I get along really good when we are in class but this will give us the chance to see each other outside of class. I hope in the near future my family and I can take the time to go and see more places like that and our extend Tae Kwon Do family.

I am very proud of my rank in Tae Kwon Do and my plans are to remain in this art until and after I earn my 9th degree black belt. Master McDowell has put up a black belt list on his wall in the Do Jang of the people he promoted to black belts since he started teaching. It is rewarding to see my name climb the ranks on the wall as well as on Grand Master Jung’s web site. My girls and other students told me they want to see their name up on the wall, so I told them that they will receive a lot of respect for becoming a black belt but there is a lot of responsibility as well. You have to act like a black belt by teaching, showing respect and be responsible for your actions because the lower ranking belts look up to you for guidance. Since I earn my black belt I have been teaching other students their new forms, palgwes, and one steps, under the supervision of my instructor. By teaching I get to know the other people better and it gives me the opportunely to perfect the technique of the art, because I make sure I am doing it the right way so I can show them the right way to do it. I want to thank my instructor Master McDowell for taking the time to train us and having a Do Jang so close to home, also for the gift of my new uniform with the black strips and the embroider black belt.
