What Tae Kwon Do means to me

Tae Kwon Do is a very important part of me; all of my friends and everyone who knows me knows that. Every since 2nd grade some kids have made fun of me because I'm short, and that's just who I am. When I was in 4th grade, so when I was 9, I decided to start Tae Kwon Do in Tama, because we knew a lot of people there, and at first I kinda liked it but thought that I might quit. But now I love it and I really don't want to quit. Tae Kwon Do has taught me self-control, helped me on my temper, and taught me to never give up.

I have came across a long journey to this test today. I have seen four people from my branch go through this test, telling me what to expect, but I know that not every test is the same. I prepared the best I could, and I WILL try my best not matter what. Nothing will stop me from trying, but I will also try to help others too. This is what I have been taught in my branch. Two others are testing from my school, and I hope that we will all pass; continue on with our Tae Kwon Do knowledge and will go on and test for our 1st Dan Black Belt in April.

The 5 tenets of Tae Kwon Do have changed me over the years. Courtesy to me is when someone is in need of help and you go and help them, when not even being asked to. I think that this is important because with the help of Tae Kwon Do you can stick up for people and yourself when you have to. I additionally realize what courtesy is when I help teach lower belts. Integrity is important to me to because you have to be a truthful, knowing person to be an incredible person. I think that Perseverance is important in Tae Kwon Do because you have to be able to never give up and keep going to go through a difficult test, and you can always try harder. I have a hard time breaking boards, but perseverance has taught me to always keep trying to break the board. Self Control is a very important tenet in Tae Kwon Do because you need to have control of your mind and body. Also you have to know your body's limits so you don't hurt yourself or others on accident. Indomitable Spirit is important by teaching you how to have courage, and faith in yourself. You should never break others spirits or your own. The people at my school, in my opinion, have strong Indomitable Spirits and they have helped me make mine stronger.

I have made many friends in Tae Kwon Do and have got to know people better too. But since I go to school in Grinnell, this has helped me get to see them more often, besides just on weekends or in the summer. I am happy that I chose to go to the Tama branch, and got to learn more about Mrs. Knock, and my fellow students.
