Jacob Clarke--Temporary Black Belt

My Tae Kwon Do Life

I think Tae Kwon Do means something different to every student and everyone's journey to black belt is unique. Over the last few years Tae Kwon Do has become a big part of my life, while trying to balance work and family, sticking with it has been a challenge to say the least.

I started Tae Kwon Do when I was 19 and had two goals, to learn self-defense and to earn a black belt. Little did I know I would gain far more than that from practicing the art.

Gaining the confidence to give public speeches, overcoming uncertainty in myself, and a willingness to try new endeavors without the fear of failure are things I attribute directly to the teachings of Tae Kwon Do. I have found there are many other invaluable by-products like these that can develop while practicing the art as well.

Throughout the years of practice my goals have expanded greatly. Instead of black belt being an ending point, now I feel as if I will be starting over, just with a different mindset. I look forward to learning more, teaching more, and the constant pursuit to achieve my personal best.

Over the years I have met a lot of really great people at Jung's and learned a great deal about myself and others. I am truly thankful for my Dad introducing me to the art of Tae Kwon Do, for it has shaped me into the person I am today. It is difficult to sum up what Tae Kwon Do means to me in just a few paragraphs but all in all it has been one, if not the most positively influential things in my life.
PILSUNG!
