Lucas Pierce--1st Dan Test

My Tae Kwon Do Life
August 10, 2013
My Tae Kwon Do life started about three years ago in September of 2010. I started Tae Kwon Do because I saw it in my local newspaper ad and I read about Tae Kwon Do so I decided that I would like to give it a try and I really liked it. I continued to stick with Tae Kwon Do and that's why I have made it so far. The other reason I made it this far because I worked hard for my temporary black belt and studied my terminology.

Tae Kwon Do has helped me a lot in school. It has helped me by teaching me to use self-control. For example, when I'm in class I don't blurt out or talk out of turn like I used to. I use perseverance a lot too, especially when I'm trying to hit the ball in baseball. If I miss once I don't give up and I keep trying to hit the ball. I use respect by not interrupting people while they are talking and I use courtesy by being considerate to other people too. I use integrity by being honest. I use indomitable spirit by not feeling overwhelmed at test even when I am tired. Tae Kwon Do has helped me a lot in life by breaking my talking habit, keeping me more active than I was before I started Tae Kwon Do. It teaches me to use courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit everyday.

Temporary black belt test preparation was hard. Sometimes I would leave the do jang being very upset with Master Bendickson, Master Shmitt, or both. Sometimes I felt so mad at them I did not want to go to Tae Kwon Do class ever again. But I kept coming back to class and I came out with the same feeling over and over again. However, having Master Bendickson and Master Schmitt push me so hard really helped me at my test because I felt I was ready for my temporary black belt test. Sometimes in my temporary black belt test I felt tired but I still used all the power that I could and kept working very hard. I could not have passed my test without Master Bendickson and Master Schmitt pushing me so hard. After my test I was feeling happy that they helped me.

The two things about Tae Kwon Do that I like is board breaking and learning about the Korean history. I like to learn about the important people that helped make Korea and the history that is in the terminology. I continue to study all my terminology from Chun Ji to Ko Ryo and all of the belt meanings, palgwes and the meaning of Tae Kwon Do. I also really like learning my forms too.

I help around the do jang by helping teach forms, kicks, techniques, 1/3 steps, and free sparing. I also pick up board splinters.

Sometimes I forget certain parts of my forms but once I start doing them I remember them. My hardest form to remember is hwa rang. My most favorite forms are chung mu and ko ryo. This is the essay of my tae kwon do life so far.
