Allison Tibbott's Essay
Temporary Black Belt Test
Test 238
June 1, 2013

Hi, I am Allison Tibbott from Edgewood, Iowa.  I am currently a  6th grader at Edgewood-Colesburg Elementary School.  I have been a student at McDowell's Midwest Academy of Tae Kwon Do since November 2010.
Two years ago my friend Lily Aulwes called and asked me if I wanted to go to a Tae Kwon Do class with her. I had no idea what was coming. So when I got to the dojang my nerves were going crazy! I knew nothing about Tae Kwon Do, an I didn't know any Korean.  Bryce Wulfekuhle who was an older Black Belt taught me how to do Pal-Gwe 1 and Chon-ji. I remember one time when I was doing white belt 3 steps I stepped on Bryce's big toe we both had a good laugh.
Since I have been in Tae Kwon Do I have learned a lot and I have gotten to meet a lot of new people. I have gotten to know the Black Belt boys at my schools; Tony McDowell, Fisher Woodley, and Bryce Wulfekuhle.  In June of 2012 I was able to go to Divide Colorado to spend time at Grand Master Jung's Eagle's Nest. While I was in Colorado I got to spend a lot of time with some of my Tae Kwon Do family.  When we were at the cabin we had to get up at 6 o'clock in the morning to do our forms on the mountains. It was very quiet on the mountains until our loud “ki hops” scared the bears away.  This is when I also met Master Rita Pearson who helped Lily and I with our forms.
While in Tae Kwon Do I have learned how to protect myself if I am ever was being attacked. I have attended a Tae Kwon Do tournament in Cedar Rapids. This helped me know what I needed to work on for test.
Tae Kwon Do has helped me in many different ways. One way is in sports. I always keep my tenets in my head; Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, Indomitable Spirit. Tae Kwon Do also helps me with jumping high in volley ball and running fast in softball. It helps me with strength and endurance while playing sports, it helps me to keep playing hard.  Also Tae Kwon Do has helped me build my confidence and courage in sports and school.  I know it is important to have good grades to be a Tae Kwon Do student.  This makes me try harder in my classes and to be the best student I can be.
My favorite parts of Tae Kwon Do are, forms, board breaking and kicks. Blue Belt form Yul-Gok is my favorite form because this is the first form where there is a jump and I like this the best. My favorite board breaking technique is a flying side kick.  I enjoy doing this kick because you run and fly through the air to break the board. Tornado kicks are also my favorite because there are a lot of action in one move.

I hope to stay in Tae Kwon Do for as long as I can and I hope to get 6th degree Black Belt. I know to get to this level, I need to continue to work on my tenets, my school work,  my forms, and my techniques. I know if I work hard at it I will reach my goal as a Black Belt.
